Gone are the days when you’d access the internet through a dial-up modem, and have to listen to that horrible beeping sound as your computer made a connection. Nowadays, virtually everyone has wifi, since it allows you to easily connect any device to the internet without any need for wires. There’s a problem with this system, though, and if you live in a house that’s a little on the larger side, it’s a problem you’ll probably be very familiar with. Wifi routers only have a limited range, and walls and other obstacles can have a serious impact on how far your connections stretch. Obviously, that’s not ideal if you want to browse the web and you don’t happen to be sat right next to your router. Thankfully, though, there are a couple of solutions that could prove to be a real help.

On the one hand, you have super-powered routers that pack a serious punch. However, these tend to be pretty expensive, and if you’re not that technically-minded, you might find them too much of a headache to set up. On the other hand, there’s a simple, easy, yet highly effective option that anyone can put together- mesh systems. In essence, these are multiple routers that link together to bring a much-needed boost to the range of your wifi. Using them is as simple as scattering them around your house to reach those annoying wifi dead spots, and then hooking them up to each other with the included Ethernet cables.

Of course, as with any hot trend in the tech world, there are plenty of different options out there for consumers, as companies vie for your money. That being said, mesh network devices are still a fairly new innovation, so while we can expect to see the market explode in the next year or so, the current amount of choice isn’t too overwhelming.
By far the best mesh network device on the market is Google Wifi. As you’d expect from a major player like Google, these devices are sleek and stylish, so there’s no need to worry about ugly machines cluttering up your home. They provide outstanding connectivity, and best of all, the ethernet and power ports are tucked away on the underside of the device. No more annoying antennas and blinking lights to distract you out of the corner of your eye! Setup is a breeze, too, as it takes only a couple of minutes with the Google Wifi app to get your first router set up. With each subsequent router, you only have to plug them in and tell the app they are there, and hey presto- your network is all ready to go!
In practice, the Google Wifi devices are just as functional as they are pleasing to the eye. We found that they never let us down, and the coverage even stretches out into the garden. For your money, you get three routers, and while two will probably be enough to fully cover most medium-sized homes, the extra one is still a welcome bonus. Where Google Wifi really shines, though, is in the built-in app. It makes the day-to-day running of your home network so much simpler, as you can quickly check download speeds, set up guest networks, and more with just the touch of a button. It really couldn’t be easier!

So, if you’re sick of slow internet speeds when you’re away from your router, and blind spots limiting just where you can use your wifi, it might be time to give a mesh network a try. Google Wifi gives you a whole lot of bang for your buck, and we think it’s the top choice out there. Why not give it a try for yourself?

Nology Computers have both Google Wifi 3 Packs and single units in stock. We can even come to you and set up your very own mesh network covering your entire home (and beyond!)
